After years of investigation and scandal surrounding the Reggie Bush and O.J. Mayo eras at the school, the University of Southern California has chosen to return Bush’s 2005 Heisman Trophy as well as other memorabilia from the 2 stars:

The Trojan family honors and respects the USC sporting careers of those persons whose actions did not compromise their athletic program or the opportunities of future USC student-athletes. Accordingly, I have instructed the senior vice president for administration to remove athletic jerseys and murals displayed in recognition of O.J. Mayo and Reggie Bush by mid-August — before the incoming class of students moves on campus — from Heritage Hall, the Galen Center and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The university also will return Mr. Bush’s 2005 Heisman Trophy to the Heisman Trophy Trust in August.

ESPN.com is reporting that Giants’ 3rd round draft pick and former LSU star Chad Jones has been involved in a car crash and is listed in critical condition.

According to New Orleans’ CBS affiliate WWL-TV, Jones, 21, suffered “a fractured left leg and had arteries and nerves exposed.” The station reports that Jones was listed in critical condition and was in surgery at 10:15 a.m. The accident has been reported to have occurred between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Jones was well known in collegiate sports and was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 13th round coming out of high school. He played outfield and reliever for the LSU Tigers’ nationally ranked baseball team as well as safety for the football team. He is one of only 2 players in NCAA history to win collegiate championships for both Football and Baseball.

Multiple sources are reporting that the UConn Huskies men’s basketball team has been accused of 8 “major” NCAA rules violations.

According to Yahoo.com:

The school released the notice of allegation letter Friday following a 15-month investigation into the recruiting of former player Nate Miles. The eight alleged violations include improper phone calls and text messages to recruits, giving recruits improper benefits and improperly distributing free tickets to high school coaches and others. Coach Jim Calhoun was cited for failing to promote an atmosphere of compliance.

Investigations into the elite program and University began as a follow-up to a Yahoo! Sports story alleging that “former team manager Josh Nochimson helped guide basketball recruit Nate Miles to Connecticut, giving him lodging, transportation, meals and representation.” (To read the full article, click here)
